I’ve often wondered why Hartford, Connecticut appears deteriorated, despite its history of being a wealthy and influential city. By looking at the history of the highways built through Hartford, public opinion of the city, and the current state of the city, we can see how the construction of Interstate 84 through Hartford has negatively affected the city, which we otherwise might not see. This is important because Hartford is the capitol of Connecticut, and many residents of the state are disappointed to see the capitol city as a shell of what it once was.
